So this doesn't really have anything to do with riding bikes. After some reading and research here, I picked up a older german made coffee mill (grinder) for about $10 around christmas time. I decided to go with an Armin Trosser rather than many of the more stylish Dienes or Zassenhaus grinders. The burr grinder works great and can grind beans with stepless adjustment all the way from turkish style extra fine powder all the way up to a super coarse french press grind (what I have been using lately) it easily grinds coffee fine enough to choke any espresso machine causing the OPV (over pressure valve) to kick in. Anyhow german ones are the best and those with forged and machined burrs are the ones to go with rather than those with cast burrs. You can search ebay or hit up your local thrift/antique store for these beauties. A word of warning though, supposedly lots of these are pretty beat and of not manufactured with such tight tolerances and may not produce the grind you are looking for so try first. Also to clean the burrs grind white rice through them.
Also don't forget that these are hand powered and great for camping or anywhere else you may not have power or be able to lug a grinder. If you are impatient or don't want to feel like you are back in elementary school sharpening pencils, look elsewhere. But I dare you to find a modern electronic grinder for less than $350 that produces a grind of the same quality.
